To know the exact requirements for your facility, it’s best to contact your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
If your healthcare facility falls into building category 1 or 2 according to NFPA 99, then they must be ANSI/UL 1069 approved.
PARTS OF A NURSE CALL SYSTEM
Master Station:
Central console in a nurse station that allows for the visible and audible annunciation of calls as well as the prioritizing of calls, checking of call status and associated room numbers
Room Stations (Toilet, Shower, and Caregiver-Initiated):
Pull cords or buttons that trigger a call for assistance when pulled by a resident or patient.
Duty and Staff Stations:
A device that alerts medical staff to a call with a light, a tone, or both.
Dome Lights:
Lights are used to indicate the room where a patient or resident has pressed their nurse call button.
